What’s on TV Saturday: ‘McQueen’ and ‘Jonestown: Terror in the Jungle’

An Alexander McQueen documentary debuts on Amazon. And a Sundance TV sequence appears to be like again at the Jonestown bloodbath.

McQUEEN (2018) on Amazon. The story of the renegade clothier Alexander McQueen, who died in 2010, has been advised in a play, in biographies and in numerous tabloids. This shifting documentary by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui is a welcome addition to that chronicle. It honors the designer’s eccentric imaginative and prescient by means of catwalk footage from his daring runway exhibits and interviews with household and associates. “Feeling less like a celebration than a fond farewell, ‘McQueen’ successfully steers clear of hagiography,” Jeannette Catsoulis wrote in her evaluate for The New York Times. “Michael Nyman’s score can be annoyingly pushy. Yet the filmmakers’ emphasis on drama honors the driven personality of their subject, while tracing a fairly conventional glad-rags-to-riches narrative arc.”
