Catholic Church weighs in on new state Reproductive Health Act

(WIVB) – A historic and controversial regulation defending abortion legal guidelines have leaders of the Catholic Church considering forward.

The laws was handed by the New York State Legislature, and signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo simply hours later on Tuesday. Cuomo says it protects rights received in the Roe V. Wade Supreme Court case.

Cheryl Calire is the Director of Pro-Life Services for the Diocese of Buffalo. She says it is no incumbent on the Church to point out girls that there are options to abortion.

“(Tuesday) was a sad day,” Calire mentioned. “Not only for New York State, however I imagine for your complete Church and for our complete nation.

“I feel we have to do a greater job educating the general public as to what this invoice truly represents.”

The invoice brings state regulation into accordance with the Roe V. Wade ruling, in phrases of when abortion is and is not allowed 24 weeks after conception. The public well being regulation in the Empire State now says abortion is allowed if there’s a threat to the mom’s life or well being, or if the fetus is not viable.

“Our entire goal is to empower girls, to not allow,” Calire said. “While they’re right here, they’ve ongoing help wiht mother and father and the entire issues they must be a great mother.”
